Welcome back Stargazers!
Hope everyone enjoyed the Harvest Moon in late October and the beautiful Beaver Moon this past week. The stars never disappoint!
We are now fully in the month of November, a time that’s the ‘beginning to the end’ of a cycle, with intense reflection, deep emotional processing and significant shifts in planetary direction; bringing to light re-evaluation of personal truths, relationships and disrupting existing foundations. I have an interest in the different aspects of astrology such as moons and shooting stars, and November offers two unusual events back to back. The middle of the month provides double excitement with the appearance of the Leonid Meteor shower and the Scorpio New Moon.
The Leonid Meteor showers (November 17) are visible in the pre-dawn. These showers coincide with the New Moon in Scorpio, bringing a time of deep emotional work, a beautiful visual symbol of change and light appearing from the darkness. These showers of stars are uniquely known for being very fast and producing bright “fireball” meteors with long lasting trails. Since meteor showers do not hold the same power as major planetary or lunar events; they often carry symbolic energy due to significant ties in the constellation Leo the Lion.
Themes vary surrounding this star shower and the association with Leo includes passion, self-expression, romance, and the Sun. It can also bring out the shadow side of Leo energy such as vanity, a hunger for power and control issues. Shooting stars are universally considered indicators of luck, good fortune, reinforcing the tradition of “wishing on a shooting star.” The connection with the Leo constellation activates the brightest star Regulus. In astrology, Regulus has the energetic frequency of Mars (strength, drive) and Jupiter (expansion, luck). This combo highlights topics of leadership, honor, glory and success. The history of the Leonid showers helps form the folklore that describes the great meteor storm of November 1833, where thousands of meteors were seen across the Americas. This event was described as if ” the stars of the sky fell to the earth,” which reflected prophecies found in the Book of Revelations in the Bible.
In essence, these meteor showers are often associated with warnings, significant earthly changes: sometimes predicting war, famine or divine judgement. They offer an astrological opportunity for a burst of vibrant, passionate energy to pursue goals; but with a reminder to stay grounded and humble in the process.
The connecting event to the Leonid meteor showers is the Scorpio New Moon (November 20). This is a powerful moon, being influenced by Mercury (communication, hidden motives, critical thinking) and opposing Uranus (innovation, rebellion, sudden change) and is not intended for new beginnings but rather a potent energetic reset and a time for deep introspection. It suggests sudden breakthroughs in understanding, the revelation of hidden information, and a radical transformation of how you perceive reality. The moon is sometimes referred to the “Alchemist’s moon” or “Healer moon” for its ability to help people translate challenging emotions and experiences into wisdom and personal power.
This November moon is universally known to signify a fresh start when it is in the intense water sign of Scorpio. Therefore a time to take back power, a moment of creation, and a time to plant seeds for the future, move forward and generate progress.
A quote to ponder while we travel through November, “Speaking truth is the practice of perception before reaction.”
Keep looking to the Heavens and enjoy their beautiful display of wonder!
Happy Stargazing until next time.
Yours in the Stars, Astrid
