Welcome to the Season of the Eclipse: the Blood Moon eclipse occurred September 7 and the Partial Solar Eclipse will be September 21.
We’re at the midway point in September and it’s already been a series of twists and turns, ups and downs. Have you kept your seat belt buckled?
The second Eclipse of the month hugs the same set dates as the Autumn Equinox and that makes for an interesting and entertaining ending to the month. Themes surrounding the Autumn Equinox are of harvest, balance, and preparation for the months ahead. Retreat of life, self-revelation and grounding are also part of this month-ending event. The season is changing slowly toward Autumn. Crisp mornings; the distant call of migrating geese, squirrels and chipmunks gathering nuts and food supplies, these are all signals of the change in seasons.
Celebrations and gratitude grace this time of year. In some cultures, after the crops are harvested a huge feast is prepared for the field staff. In Britain, special “corn spirits” are believed to live in the husks of the corn. At the end of the corn harvest, the last husk is transformed into a “Corn Dolly,” which is kept safe until Spring to secure the new crops’ success.
In some of our Native American cultures, the Elders share the ‘Legend of the Bear and Deer.’ A celestial battle occurs between the selfish Bear and the wise Deer. This encounter leaves the Bear wounded and the Deer flees with the Bear’s blood on its antlers. The blood drops fall to the earth, staining the leaves yellow, red, and brown, just in time for Fall.
The second event of the latter part of September is the Partial Solar Eclipse in Virgo. It influences both social and diplomatic circles while encouraging one-on-one connections. Precepts of balance, growth, and re-evaluation could be present. There’s also an undercurrent of frustration, a need of accountability, a level of misunderstanding and a powerful push for both change and restructuring of values. A shift in human behavior with an atmosphere of sharp words and actions is possible. Be aware and careful.
We live in an interesting time, with two celestial events encouraging preparation, balance, gratitude, and an urgency to change. Due to the physical connection on the calendar, the partial Solar Eclipse and the Autumn Equinox share the opportunity to “plant new seeds” through cooperation, steadiness and partnership that will reflect what will happen over the next six months.
Earlier this month astrologer Steve Judd offered this thought on the upcoming and possibly dramatic events leading into and around September 21-23. His words struck me as something to ponder: “If your speech or words were tattooed on your skin, would you be considered beautiful?”
Keep looking to the heavens.
Happy stargazing until next time.
Yours in the Stars,
Astrid
