Our Moon and Astrology

Welcome back Stargazers!

This week we’re exploring the Moon’s relationship with Astrology. In Astrology, the Moon is considered the ruler of the inner world – representing our subconscious, emotions, and instincts\reactions. While the Sun reflects our outer personality, our Moon sign reveals the private self we show only to those closest to us.

The Natal Moon (our Soul Blueprint) is determined by where the Moon was at the exact moment of birth. It influences:

1.  Emotional processing – how we handle feelings of fear, joy, or sadness.

2.  Sense of security – what makes us feel safe and “at home”.

3.  Nurturing style – how we care for others and our relationship with maternal figures.

4.  Habits and instincts – our automatic, knee-jerk responses to life’s challenges.

Considering the impact of the lunar phases, the Moon’s 29.5 day cycle acts as a cosmic schedule for growth and release.

1.  New Moon – a ” clean slate” for setting goals and starting projects.

2.  Waxing Moon (growing) – a period of building momentum, taking action, and then refinement.

3.  Full Moon – a peak of high energy and emotional intensity, often bringing hidden truths to light.

4.  Waning Moon (shrinking) – a time for reflection, letting go of bad habits; resting.

The Moon is the fastest moving celestial body. It changes zodiac signs every 2-2.5 days. It acts as a “daily weather report” for moods.

1.  Fire signs – Aries, Leo, Sagittarius: days feel passionate, impulsive, and energetic.

2.  Earth signs – Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn: focus shifts to practical tasks and physical comfort.

3.  Air signs – Gemini, Libra, Aquarius: socializing and intellectual pursuits become priority.

4.  Water sign – Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces: intuition and sensitivity are heightened.

Let’s explore how the Moon’s position in the various signs of the Zodiac influences human reaction.

Moon in Aries: Volatile, emotionally impulsive nature; often behaves without due consideration of the consequences of their actions; very independent, insisting on following their own path. Negatively, attempts to dominate others and be the center of attention.

Moon in Taurus: The Moon in Taurus is considered to be “Exalted,” or in the position of enhancing the most intense Taurus traits. There’s a deep need for financial and material security, while the extra Moon energy provides a stable, fertile ground to thrive. On the negative side of this placement, the individual can appear as stubborn and unmovable.

Moon in Gemini: An emotional nature, likely positive, with a quick wit and resourcefulness; individuals tend to talk incessantly, sometimes annoying others. On the negative side, the emotions can distort reason and cause confusion. Impulsive changes to avoid any hint of boredom.

Moon in Cancer: The sign of its Rulership, indicating great depth and intensity of the emotions with very strong ties to mother, family, and the home. The family home is the center of the universe. Contrariwise,  there may be excessive emotional instability.

Moon in Leo: An emotionally proud individual with a flair for drama; often seeks the spotlight; wants to be admired by the public and also deeply desires affection and romance from a partner. Negatively, the ego may take over as the driving force.

Moon in Virgo: A hardworking, practical nature; great regard for neatness and cleanliness; prefers working quietly behind the scenes. On the other hand, can be preoccupied with details and have a sharply critical attitude towards others.

Moon in Libra: Strong sensitivity to the attitudes and reactions of others, especially marriage partners and close working partners; wants approval of others. Alternately, tends to be easily influenced without considering all the factors involved.

Moon in Scorpio: Strong, biased emotions based on willful desire. This isn’t considered a favorable position for the Moon, as it’s in the sign of its Fall, indicated by struggle for self-expression and to exist harmoniously within the individual environment. Negatively, too headstrong to consider differing views.

Moon in Sagittarius: A lofty, idealistic, emotional nature; aspires to higher goals but may lack a realistic sense of life. Truly engaged with the outdoors, animals and adventures ‘in the wild.’ On the negative side, may have narrow-minded views, with an egotistical attitude.

Moon in Capricorn: A reserved and cautious nature; the Moon here is in its Detriment making it inclined to be cold and austere; always taking life seriously, perhaps too much so. On the inharmonious side, calculating tendencies to achieve power at any cost may be evident.

Moon in Aquarius: Friendly to all yet impersonal; prefers open relationships/marriages and great personal freedom to pursue other interests, careers or partners. Home is always open to friends and gatherings. Negative impact is lack of deep friendships and love relationships; considered shallow and flighty by others hurt in a partnership.

Moon in Pisces: Innate emotional nature bared to the world; absorbs others’ distress, anger, fears and anxiety. Vivid imagination best used in lifelong creative pursuits. Kind to others; sympathetic and a good listener. On the other hand (or Fish, since Pisces is symbolized by two fish swimming in opposite directions), easily hurt, emotionally immature, unable to determine when to trust intuition.

Whew….lots of information regarding our Moon. It’s Earth’s satellite and the only one of the planetary moons regarded as having strong astrological influence. The Moon’s position in a Natal Chart is vital to understanding the astrology affecting our lives.

Throughout February, there will be more excitement in the heavens. Keep looking to the skies and continue to enjoy their nightly display of awesome!

Happy Stargazing until next time.

Yours in the Stars,

Astrid
