Welcome back, Stargazers

We are rapidly coming to the end of September – whew!  What a ride. And now onto October – the Season of Libra. There will be more excitement, changes, possible chaos enhanced by the Scorpio energy and the Venus (ruler of Libra) dynamics… which will keep us on alert. Join me in exploring the reordering of the planetary shifts and moon phases which will influence relationships, communications, and introspection.

The first major event in October that caught my eye is the Full Moon on October 6th.This year we’ll be witness to a Super Harvest Moon (also known in popular culture as the ‘The Great Pumpkin Moon’). This Super Harvest Moon occurs when it’s the closest Full Moon to the Autumn Equinox. It’s also at the closest point to the Earth in its orbit, making it appear larger and brighter. This is a powerful astronomical event that combines the symbolism of farming under the harvest moon with the heightened energy of a super moon. Thus, a profound moment for reflection and manifestation.

The folklore surrounding this event is fun and entertaining. The Super Harvest Moon is a symbol of plenty and a reminder to be grateful for the bounty of the season. This reminder applies to not only farmers but hunters as well, as it provides extended hunting hours. Themes of hard work, successful harvests, time to prepare and store provisions for the coming winter are present during this moon phase.

This is also a time for magic with the large golden moon rising close to the horizon during harvest. The Moon is particularly close and – watching. As mentioned previously, this ‘Great Pumpkin’ Moon will appear especially large and orange as it rises. The orange hue has made it a central part of Autumn images, connecting it to Halloween and fall celebrations. The magic continues with stories of the Werewolf and the Moon. During this event, there’s increased activity among wolves: leaving the forests, acting strangely and howling at the moon, causing disturbances. Hauntings and awakenings of the spirits which are also activated by this moon are noted – and the ominous belief that the Harvest Moon can drive people insane. The Ancients believed the large Harvest Moon could definitely influence mood and behavior; the word ‘lunatic’ comes from the Roman Goddess of the Moon – Luna.

Emotions such as intuition are heightened, with suppressed feelings coming to the surface and release can be more powerful than usual. Reflect on your achievements and what you have ‘harvested’ over the past year. This year the Harvest Moon falls in Aries which emphasizes one’s confidence and ambition. This Super Moon will be the first of three Super Moons to close out the year.

Remember the Super Harvest Moon is watching!

Keep looking to the heavens.

Happy Stargazing until next time.

Yours in the Stars,

Astrid
