“Zeus, the father of the
Olympic Gods, turned
mid-day into night, hiding the light
of the dazzling Sun;
and sore fear came upon men.“
Archilochus, Greek poet (c680-c640 BC) and mercenary soldier, writing of the total solar eclipse of April 6, 648 BC.
You’ll note that ancient eclipse date was quite close to Monday, the 8th of April’s, date with destiny. But on a more personal note (for which Archilocus was famous in the literary world), being able to only write his poetry between battles evidently made the poet bitter and hugely unhappy with the hard life of a soldier. – MZ
Oh boy, there’s no fear like “sore fear” but methinks we prevailed.
