A Trio of Poems

TENDER MUTTONS

We both ordered mutton, tender.
Au jus with your muttons,
Your tender muttons?

It was au jus unlike no other au jus we’ve ever had in that
It was exactly like every other au jus we’ve tenderly had
When we’ve almost always never ordered mutton, ever.
AMERICA THE DONNER PARTY

The smoky ends of manifest destiny.
And that’s exactly who we are.
Thirteen innocent lives, ten more,
Hundreds, thousands, millions.
Where’s the vax for that?
I need the vax for that.
That’s the vax I really need.
FROM ACTION TO EYEWITNESS TO HIGH DEFINITION

Tightly twisting traffic.
Monkeys screaming like
Technology malfunctions
Which, if that was your
Circus car off to the side
With flames coming out the windows,
I hope you weren’t in it.
