Just wandering around a farm and the house, buildings, back 40 – you know the routine. And finding ‘what’s this’ items in the process, man.
Apparently this wild and crazy ‘thing’ was the veneer from a metal bracket or post at one point – you can see the indentation of a square top in the lower part of it. Look hard enough, there’s one seahorse head talking to another seahorse head. Then a scared Bambi with his mouth open, next to a hamster with the same open-mouthed, frightened look. At the tip of the biggest seahorse’s nose, a tiny astronaut staring transfixed, grooving on an unknown galaxy. There’s even a white heart above the hamster.
What I’m trying to say here is that you can see a thousand different things in a hundred items – but the really cool thing is that most people won’t see the exact same things. Creativity starts with that different vision.
And it isn’t just the thick turpentine fumes in my studio, Unpaid Art Critic.
