Button, button

Who’s got the button? Man, it seems like when you look around, there’s inspiration everywhere. Just take ten seconds and count how many colors are in this jar of old buttons. And you can’t tell me that anyone who sews isn’t creative. The people in the fashion industry even have a name for inspired creations that don’t have a designer label – “Wearable Art.”

The kids on TikTok are doing their own thing, and it seems like everybody is into recycle, upcycle and doing slow fashion as opposed to the quick rip-offs of the newest fads and have-to-haves. With the staggering amount of textiles and clothes thrown away each year, and the countries around the world drowning in tons of the stuff, maybe re-doing your own threads could help not just your bread supply, but our planet as well.

IMO, everybody needs to learn to sew. Google ‘Gunnar Deatherage’ if you’re on YouTube and want to see a master at work. He’s got millions of followers, and shows viewers special touches like draping fabric, or the simpler things like what fabric is going to work for the design you’re thinking about – no, paint-spattered denim is not always acceptable. (Mom is right about some things.)

And if your granny offers you some of her button collection, say ‘please.’ Your latest creation will really give out good vibrations. A.R. Tist
